After reading this article, explain how the situations Duran describes relate to the social construction of deviance. Remember to include a section on application of class concepts--define (in your own words) two concepts we've covered in class that apply to the reading, and discuss how they relate.

Duran did formal and informal research to investigate the "gang suppression model” (Durán, 2009). He used ethnographic approach in his study and collected his data through “direct observation, causal interaction, semi-structured interviews, introspection, photography, and videotaping” (Durán, 2009).The researchers took a long time to perform the research, taking five years to formally examine two cities, Denver and Ogden, and then a long fourteen years that was noted as informal. As a result, the goal of this study was to provide a comprehensive picture of the gang social world in these two locations.
